The Weekly Short

I used to write short stories on a regular basis. My thought was: if I could publish a bunch of shorts, I could build a decent resume to send off with my novels.

When I started to amass rejection letter after rejection letter, however, I realized my mistake: I was focused on writing short stories at the expense of writing longer works (novellas or novels). In fact, because I spent so much energy on short work, I ignored my first novel for almost two years.

I finally sold a few short stories, however, and I was able to add something to my bibliography. For some reason, though, I quit writing short stories in the middle of the last decade. Perhaps a highly-paid psychologist could figure out why that happened, but I'm good with the knowledge that at least I have something to share with you.

So without further babble, here is this week's featured (and free) short story...and last week's, in case you missed it.

This Week: The Fiftieth Floor
Last Week: The Wolf, The Caribou, and the Solitary Man - A Parable of Nature
